DJS  Children's Party Games

TREASURE HUNT

Children love to hunt for hidden prizes. Use chocolate coins or lollipops which are a good substitute for treasure. Best to hide the treasure before the party. Once the child has found their treasure needless to say that they are aloud to keep it.

MUSICAL BUMPS

All the players have to run, jump, skip, hop etc. whilst the music plays, when the music stops they have to sit on the floor as quickly as possible the last one to sit down is out. Continue until you have a winner.

MUSICAL CHAIRS

A fun game that requires both space and a sufficient supply of chairs that should be line up alternate facing, one less than the number of children playing. The players move round the chairs while the music is playing. When the music stops they have to sit down on a free chair, the player without a chair is out, take away one chair each time, repeat until you have 2 players and 1 chair then the one to sit down first is the winner.

MUSICAL (STANDING) STATUES

All the players have to dance or jump around while the music is playing, as soon as the music stops, the children have to stand as still as a statue in whatever position they happen to be in for as long as the music is not playing. Anyone spotted moving is out, repeat until you have a winner.

DUCK DUCK GOOSE

(The birthday boy/girl) to be the "ducker". The "ducker" gets to walk around the circle, tapping (not hitting!) each child on the head, electing to say "duck", or "goose". If the "ducker" says, "duck", then nothing happens. But if the "ducker" yells, "Goose!" then the "goosed" child gets up and runs around in an effort to tag the "ducker". If the child cannot catch the "ducker", then that child becomes the "ducker". If the "ducker" is caught, then he/she has to sit in the "soup" (the middle of the circle) until another "ducker" is caught.

HOT POTATO

This game is an old favorite. Have all of the kids sit in a circle, as one kid is chosen as the "leader". Begin passing a potato (or other object) around the circle, while the "leader" turns his/her head with eyes closed. Everyone must accept the potato, and may not hold it longer than a second. At any point the "leader" can yell, "Hot Potato", and whoever has the potato is out. Continue to play until there is only one person left, and he/she is the winner.

SIMON SAYS
One player is the leader and orders the other players to make motions by saying "Simon says thumbs up" or "Simon says hands on your head." The leader also makes all of these motions. If he omits "Simon says," however, and just orders  "Thumbs up," the players should not make the motion. Any player who does, is out of the game. The winner is the player who remains in the game the longest.

PASS THE PARCEL

Prior to the party a parcel is prepared consisting of a main prize wrapped in multiple layers of paper. Each layer of paper may also contain a smaller token prize. The children all sit in a circle on the floor and when the music is played, the parcel is passed around the circle from child to child. Each time the music stops, the child who is holding the parcel may remove one wrapper. At this point they may also be asked to perform a forfeit such as singing a song, saying a rhyme, or telling a joke. If you are feeling inventive you can come up with many other simple forfeits (forfeits are not recommended if there are a large number of wrappers). The child then claims the prize wrapped in that layer and the game continues in similar vain until the last wrapper is removed and the main prize is won.

PIN THE TAIL ON THE DONKEY
Still much enjoyed by children of all ages The children take it in turns to be blindfolded and attempt to fix the tail in the correct place on the donkey. The winner is the one who gets the closest and runner-up prizes can be presented to the other children.

SPIN THE BOTTLE

This is a variation on Pass The Parcel, an empty bottle being used to select children for forfeits. The guests sit in a circle and the bottle is placed on its side in the middle. The first spin is performed by the party organiser and when the bottle comes to a standstill whoever it is pointing to is asked to perform a forfeit for a prize. A good idea is to have a list of about ten forfeits which can range from simple counting exercises to song singing, etc. The children can be given a choice of number from one to ten and have to do the forfeit for that number. Spin the bottle can also be used as a great way to run an organised present opening at a birthday party.

LIMBO

In it's simplest form this game could be played by suspending a broomhandle between two chairs. The children take turns in trying to get under the bar without dislodging it or touching the floor with anything other than their feet. The problem with this simple method is that varying the height of the bar is quite tricky, unless you pile books of equal height on both chairs at the start and remove them gradually as you go along. A broomhandle is also quite heavy and might fall on an unsuspecting child so use bamboo cane such as is available at garden centres. If you want to go the whole hog and are handy at D.I.Y. you can fairly quickly knock up two wooden posts that will stand upright. Add some nails at regular intervals to support the stick and mark each position with coloured tape or paint for easy location. Allow the children to have a few practice goes with the bar at different heights and then line them up for the Limbo contest. Each time a round is completed the stick comes down a notch until you start to catch people out. These children then sit in front of the Limbo set to act as judges until a winner is found. If you get down to only a few children and on the next go they are all caught then the competition is a draw.

MUMMIES

Split the party goers into teams of three and give each team a toilet roll.  Two persons then wrap the third in the toilet roll so that they look like an Egyptian Mummy.  The winning team is the one who in a set time (say 2 minutes) have the neatest and most covered Mummy.

POSTMAN'S KNOCK

All the boys gather in a group and each takes a card with a sequential number (One, Two, Three etc).  The girls do the same.  The boys then form a line (shoulder to shoulder) facing the girls who are in a similar line.  (Players should NOT stand in order.  First a girl calls out a number and the boy with that number goes across to kiss her.  The a boy calls out a number and the girl with that number goes and kisses him.

PASS THE ORANGE

Arrange for teams of about 8 to stand in a line, one behind the other (arranged boy, girl, boy,...).  Give each team an orange which the first person should tuck under his chin.  This should be passed to the person behind.  When the orange gets to the last person, they come to the front of the line and start again.  The winning team is the first one which gets their starting person to the front again.

BALLOON POP

Place notes inside un-inflated balloons,1 or 2 of the notes should indicate that this balloon is a winner. Inflate the balloons and hang them around. Let each child pick a balloon then pop it to see if their note is a winner.

BALLOON RELAY

Divide the children into 2 or more equal teams and stand them in a line. Give each team ten balloons in a basket. The first in each line takes a balloon and runs to the other side of the room/yard/area and sits or stomps on the balloon to pop it.  After popping the balloon they run back to the line and tag the next person who does the same thing. The game goes on until one team has popped all of their balloons. The winning team gets a small prize (like a ribbon) while EVERYONE gets a small toy.

SACK RACERS

Take on the character of your chosen sack and take on your family and friends to a race. These games are great fun for adult's and children alike.

BURRO PULL PINATA

Based on the traditional Mexican Pinata, is ideal for younger children and makes a perfect room decoration after the party. Fill with small sweets & suprises and when the release ribbon is pulled watch the prizes tumble out! We recommend Fruity Chews as a sweet filler. Age 3+
